Sheep Shearing

Hello! I'm a Shepherd and Novice Sheep Shearer in Whatcom County. I’ve been shearing for 3 years and just finished shearing my small flock of 25 Sheep and I am eager to offer my services to the community.

I shear with traditional blade shears and in the Bowen/New Zealand style. The benefits to this method are:

  1. Minimal to Zero Second-Cuts: Hand shears glide flat against the skin in a single pass. This eliminates "second cuts" (short, chopped wool fibers caused by electric clippers passing over an area twice), which ruin spinning yarn.

  2. Cleaner Fleece Sorting: The wool falls away in a single, intact blanket. This makes it incredibly easy to "skirt" (clean) and roll the fleece for high-end crafting or sale

  3. No Grease Contamination: No need to machine oil. Just a whetstone and steel are what I need.

  4. Quiet shearing and Zero Noise Stress to the sheep

  5. Better Weather Protection: Hand shears leave a slightly longer, uniform layer of wool stubble (about 1/4 inch). This protects the sheep from sunburn in the summer and cold from the rain.

Currently Offering Discount Pricing as I am still novice starting my journey to being a Master Shearer.
