Rent a Sheep To Graze Overgrown Fields
In Whatcom and Skagit County
Tired of tall grass, brush, or overgrown vegetation? Our sheep do the hard work for you – naturally, quietly, and sustainably.
Overgrown fields don't take care of themselves, and you shouldn’t have to either.
If you’ve got acres of grass, brush, or weeds, mowing isn’t practical.
Tractors? Forget it. Slopes, rocks, thick vines, and even old junk make it tricky, frustrating, and time-consuming.
But if you leave your overgrown yard alone, it doesn’t just sit there.
Grass keeps growing, weeds spread, and small problem spots quickly turn into areas that are hard to walk through, let alone manage.
That’s where renting sheep comes in.
You can rent a sheep that quietly and naturally clears your land – even in the spots you can’t reach with machinery.
The best part? You get your land back and a few fuzzy friends while it’s happening.

Why Renting Sheep for Grazing is the Sustainable Choice
-

Healthier Soil
Sheep naturally aerate the ground as they graze, improving fertility and cycling nutrients back into the earth.
-

Safe Lawn Care
Unlike machinery, sheep won’t harm pollinators, insects, or small wildlife living in your fields.
-

Weeds & Brush
They keep invasive plants in check while encouraging healthy regrowth.
-

Fire Prevention
By clearing dry grass and excess vegetation, sheep reduce potential fire hazards.
-

Orchard Friendly
Sheep happily graze in orchards without damaging trees, creating a cleaner, healthier growing environment.
It’s low-impact, chemical-free, and leaves your land better than we found it.
Meet Jason & the Flock, Your Furry Field Crew
Hi, I’m Jason! Three years ago, I adopted a Border Collie named Ronan, and together we dove into herding sheep dog training. That led me to farms, sheep care, and eventually to starting Rent a Sheep in Whatcom and Skagit County.
When I saw how my flock turned my uncle’s overgrown fields into clean, safe, and usable space – something his tractor couldn’t do – I knew I was onto something.
Now, I get to combine land care with sustainability – and help families, farmers, and landowners get their space back in a way that feels good.
Each of our sheep has their own personality, quirks, and stories. From shy to playful and calm, you’ll love getting to know the flock that keeps your land in shape.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Prices vary because of location, distance, fencing set-ups, and size. But we typically start at $500 per graze.
-
That may be viable! However, not all properties are the same. Oftentimes, you may find that natural sheep grazing is actually the cheaper option. Especially for large acres of overgrown yards with uneven or obstructed terrain.
-
It depends on your property size and how much grazing needs to be done. For smaller lawns, a few days might be all it takes.
For bigger areas or long-term maintenance with large amounts of overgrown vegetation, the flock may stick around for weeks or even months. We’ll talk through your needs at the consultation and create the right plan for you.
-
No, quite the opposite, they will give a friendly “bah!” when they see you, and if you bring them treats, but they tend to be quiet, calm, and demure.
-
YES! Solar Grazing or Agrivoltaics is an extremely effective and economic way to reduce maintenance costs and improve panel efficiency with overgrown vegetation. Sheep graze under the panels safely and effectively.
-
Nope! Once we set everything up – fencing, water, and sheep – you can go about your day.
We’ll check in regularly to make sure the animals and your yard are happy and safe.
-
No, our sheep fertilize the land naturally and aren’t harmful to the land. However, if the job is on a lawn or backyard, we can provide a quick sweep and clean up.
-
While the sheep are very familiar with dogs, sheep are prey animals by nature, so to avoid stressing both sheep and your dog, please take care to keep pet dogs leashed and away from sheep and electric fences.
-
We provide our own electric net fencing, which both protects the sheep and the sheep know to stay away from. No fencing is required. However, we do give discounts if the property is already fully fenced off.
